Rating:

CHAALIS CHAURAASI
This week’s new releases include GHOST, CHAALIS CHAURAASI, SADDA ADDA and TUTIYA DIL. It is expected that the front runners will be CHAALIS CHAURAASI and GHOST followed by SADDA ADDA with TUTIYA DIL a distant fourth. Unfortunately none of them are expected to achieve anything significant at the ticket window.

The solo release of last week, KYA YAHI SACH HAI, failed to make any mark at the box-office and is a washout.

Moving on, after a dull to decent start, Abbas-Mustan’s PLAYERS could not really improve during the weekend (nominal pick up on Sunday), but was steady on the lower side during the weekdays. But the film will have to show some resilience in the second week to get to the plus side. PLAYERS though has disappointed in the overseas grossing £ 110,250 in the UK and $ 214,100 from the US during the opening weekend (6-8 January).

After a great first week, Farhan Akhtar’s DON 2: THE KING IS BACK saw quite a steady second week as it collected 3.50 crore from Bombay (collections from 11 cinemas unreceived), 85 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 35 lakhs from Surat, 33 lakhs from Baroda, 22.10 lakhs from Rajkot, 6 lakhs from Jamnagar, 3 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1 crore from Pune, 14.25 lakhs from Nasik, 20 lakhs from Goa, 7 lakhs from Belgaum, 3.15 crore from Delhi city, 45 lakhs from Noida, 31.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 25 lakhs from Kanpur, 46 lakhs from Lucknow, 12 lakhs from Agra, 9.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 5 lakhs from Aligarh, 61 lakhs from Gurgaon, 10.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.65 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 6 lakhs from Panipat, 20 lakhs from Chandigarh, 8.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 6.30 lakhs from Amritsar, 9 lakhs from Ludhiana, 6.65 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3.50 lakhs from Ambala, 1.10 crore from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 10.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 28 lakhs from Nagpur, 10.25 lakhs from Jabalpur, 18 lakhs from Raipur, 25 lakhs from Indore (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Gwalior, 18 lakhs from Bhopal, 85 lakhs from Jaipur, 2 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 7.75 lakhs from Ajmer, 4 lakhs from Bikaner, 14 lakhs from Kota, 10.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 82 lakhs from Hyderabad, 9.60 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1 crore from Bangalore, 10 lakhs from Mangalore, 7.35 lakhs from Vijayawada, 7.35 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 9.20 lakhs from Madras and 5.50 lakhs from Kochi. Adding another 28.50 crores, DON 2 has netted a superb 100.25 crores in two weeks from India and the dubbed (Tamil & Telugu) version(s) added another 3.25 crore. DON 2 is a hit for Reliance Big Entertainment, who paid Rs. 80 crore (excluding print & publicity cost) for the global rights of the film. The Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra starrer is an overseas blockbuster grossing £ 1,377,500 from UK and $3,575,000 from the US till the third weekend (6-8 January).

The collections of Yash Raj Films’ LADIES VS RICKY BAHL have hit the rock bottom. During the week the film collected 10 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Surat, 10 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.50 lakh from Noida, 1 lakh from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Jaipur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 1.35 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.15 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 50 lakhs LADIES VS RICKY BAHL has netted 33 crores in four weeks from India. The film is an average grosser for YRF. LADIES VS RICKY BAHL has failed in the overseas grossing £175,000 from UK till the fifth weekend (6-8 January) and $ 222,000 from the US.

Concluding with Balaji Motion Pictures and Alt. Entertainment’s Milan Luthria directed Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor starrer, THE DIRTY PICTURE, the film showed great legs (even in the fifth week) as it collected 25 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 12 cinemas unreceived), 8.65 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Surat, 2.65 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.15 lakhs from Nasik, 30 lakhs from Delhi city, 3.80 lakhs from Noida, 2.70 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.30 lakhs from Kanpur, 4.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2 lakhs from Calcutta, 4.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.35 lakhs from Raipur, 3.20 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Bhopal, 4.50 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 4.30 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived) and 6 lakhs from Bangalore. With a further 1.75 crore, THE DIRTY PICTURE has netted a superb 79.75 crores in five weeks from India and is a blockbuster. The film though has not done well in the overseas (better in US) grossing £131,500 from UK and $462,000 from the US.
