Box Office Report : 15th March 2012

Thursday, March 15, 2012 5:55:56 PM (IST) | Abid, Bollywood Trade Editorial

This week’s new releases are the Ashu Trikha directed Mithun-Ranjeeta starrer, ZINDAGI TERE NAAM and Marukh Mirza’s Aditya Raj Kapoor starrer, SAY YES TO LOVE. As both the films have not been promoted extensively and additionally look more a product from the 80s and 90s, neither of the two is expected to achieve anything significant at the box-office. Additionally, Vidya Balan’s one week old KAHAANI will be the tale that everyone will be tuned in to, even this Friday!

Last week’s two releases, CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI and KAHAANI, saw a totally contrasting fortune. While both started on a dull note, from the second day onwards KAHAANI saw a big growth with a phenomenal pick up on Saturday. Unfortunately that was not the case with CDKC as the collections remained dull throughout. As things stand, the Vidya Balan starrer KAHAANI is more or less certain to emerge as a clean hit while CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI will find it difficult to stay afloat. In the overseas KAHAANI has done quite well (especially US) grossing £70,000 from UK and $224,000 from the US during the opening weekend (9th-11th March).

Moving on, Ali Zafar’s LONDON PARIS NEW YORK could not pick up after a dull weekend as it collected 1.05 crore from Bombay (collections from 28 cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5.35 lakhs from Surat, 6.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 10.65 lakhs from Pune, 4 lakhs from Nasik, 3 lakhs from Goa, 85 lakhs from Delhi city, 14 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.20 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs from Agra, 16.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.30 lakhs from Faridabad, 5.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.75 lakhs from Amritsar, 1.25 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.55 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1 lakh from Ambala, 17 lakhs from Calcutta, 2 lakhs from Siliguri, 6.55 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 4 lakhs from Raipur, 6 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 8.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.65 lakhs from Kota, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.35 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 25 lakhs from Bangalore, 3 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.20 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 1 lakh from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). Netting around 6 crore during the first week, LONDON PARIS NEW YORK will get to recovery due to non-theatrical rights. The film is ordinary in the overseas grossing £55,000 from UK till the second weekend (9-11 March) and $52,602 from US.

Meanwhile WILL YOU MARRY ME? saw a poor run as it collected 15 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 2.70 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Calcutta and 1 lakh from Jaipur. Netting just around 50 lakhs from India, WILL YOU MARRY ME? is an unmitigated disaster.

The best performance of the week obviously came from Tigmanshu Dhulia’s PAAN SINGH TOMAR, which is on an inspired run as it collected 1.50 crore from Bombay (collections from 10 cinemas unreceived), 30 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5.55 lakhs from Surat, 11 lakhs from Baroda, 2.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 16.20 lakhs from Pune, 3.50 lakhs from Nasik, 3.15 lakhs from Goa, 1 crore from Delhi city, 20 lakhs from Noida, 12.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 11.10 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Agra, 28 lakhs from Gurgaon, 4 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.60 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.35 lakhs from Amritsar, 2 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 8.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 7 lakhs from Raipur, 17.35 lakhs from Indore, 9 lakhs from Bhopal, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh from Ajmer, 2 lakhs from Kota, 7.25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.55 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 30 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.50 lakhs from Mangalore and 1.30 lakhs from Visakhapatnam. Netting a very creditable (after a poor first day) 7.75 crore during the opening week from India PAAN SINGH TOMAR is an average fare that will surely get to a higher status. The Irrfan Khan starrer though has not achieved the same success in the overseas grossing £14,000 from UK and $34,000 from the US, till the second weekend (9-11 March).

Checking out the Madhavan-Bipasha starrer, JODI BREAKERS, the film crashed further in the second week collecting 25 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.55 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.15 lakh from Rajkot, 1.75 lakhs from Pune, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 3 lakhs from Noida, 2.25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2 lakhs from Kanpur, 2 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.20 lakhs from Agra, 2.30 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.35 lakhs from Chandigarh, 5.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.60 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.25 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.50 lakhs from Raipur, 2 lakhs from Indore, 2.50 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5.20 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1.75 crore, JODI BREAKERS has netted an ordinary 10 crores in two weeks from India and is a commercial failure. The film has also been rejected in the overseas.

Concluding with TERE NAAL LOVE HO GAYA, the film continues its successful run as it collected 40 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 17 cinemas unreceived), 30 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 5.60 lakhs from Rajkot, 7 lakhs from Pune, 4.65 lakhs from Nasik, 2 lakhs from Goa, 40 lakhs from Delhi city, 7.65 lakhs from Noida, 5.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.85 lakhs from Kanpur, 8 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.50 lakhs from Agra, 7.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.20 lakhs from Faridabad, 5.20 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3.15 lakhs from Amritsar, 2.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2.60 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1.35 lakhs from Ambala, 9 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Siliguri, 10.35 lakhs from Nagpur, 3 lakhs from Jabalpur, 6.50 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 6 lakhs from Bhopal, 20 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.35 lakhs from Bikaner, 2.30 lakhs from Kota, 5.50 lakhs from Hyderabad, 6.20 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 10.20 lakhs from Bangalore, 1 lakh from Mangalore and 1 lakh from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). With another 5.50 crore, TERE NAAL LOVE HO GAYA has netted a creditable 18 crore in two weeks from India. The Ritesh-Genelia starrer is an above average fare.
