Box Office Report: 17th July 2017

Monday, July 17, 2017 3:13:15 PM (IST) | Abid, Bollywood Trade Editorial

The new release of the week, Anurag Basu's Katrina-Ranbir starrer, JAGGA JASOOS, opened on a reasonable note (9 crore) and saw growing collections as the days progressed, netting in the 33-34 crore range during the opening weekend from India, which gives it a chance to make a decent mark at the box-office, despite the heavy price. Having said that, the weekday run holds the key to the fortunes of the film.

Meanwhile, Boney Kapoor’s Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui (special appearance) starrer, MOM, managed to put up a decent show at the ticket window. Though MOM will not be able to emulate the success of Sridevi’s last venture, ENGLISH VINGLISH, but the opening week figure of 25 crore (to be validated), may help it getting into the profitable zone, depending on the second week run. The film has done reasonably (given the cost and cast) in the overseas, grossing nearly $1m during the opening weekend.

The other release of the same week as MOM, Ashwini Dhar’s Kartitk Aaryan, Paresh Rawal and Kirti Kharabanda starrer, GUEST IN LONDON, failed to tickle the funny bones of the audience netting just around 8 crore during the opening week from India.

Concluding yet again with the Kabir Khan directed, Salman-Zhu Zhu starrer, TUBELIGHT, the film expectedly crashed in the second week collecting 1 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 9.50 lakhs from Surat, 6.15 lakhs from Baroda, 4 lakhs from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 4.50 lakhs from Nasik, 7.75lakhs from Goa, 1.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 95 lakhs from Delhi city, 25 lakhs from Noida, 20 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 17.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 30 lakhs from Lucknow , 8.50 lakhs from Agra, 8.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 3 lakhs from Aligarh, 9.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 10.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.85 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2.25 lakhs from Panipat, 8.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 5.85 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2.50 lakhs from Patiala, 5.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 7.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2.20 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1 lakh from Ambala, 40 lakhs from Calcutta, 5 lakhs from Siliguri, 7.50 lakhs from Patna, 3.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 5.25 lakhs from Ranchi, 3 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 3 lakhs from Guwahati, 15 lakhs from Nagpur, 8.75lakhs from Raipur, 15 lakhs from Indore, 3.50lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 10 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 5 cinemas unrecieved), 20 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 6 cinemas unrecieved), 4.25 lakhs from Jodhpur, 2.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 1 lakh from Bikaner, 4.20 lakhs from Kota, 4.75 lakhs from Udaipur, 15 lakhs from Hyderabad, 4.15 lakhs from Aurangabad, 30 lakhs from Bangalore, 2.25 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.85 lakhs from Mysore, 1 lakh from Visakhapatnam and 1.50 lakhs from Kochi. Adding another 12 crore, TUBELIGHT has netted 119 crore in two weeks from India and is a huge loss making venture for the distributors. The producers though are sitting on a big table profit. TUBELIGHT is so-so in the overseas grossing $7m with £600,000 from UK and $1,450,000 from the US.
