KYA YAHI SACH HAI
It is an almost open week at the box-office with just KYA YAHI SACH HAI listed for release. The film has been directed by former IPS officer Y.P. Singh. Unfortunately KYA YAHI SACH HAI is not expected to achieve much as DON: THE KING IS BACK will once again remain the first choice.

As expected and predicted, Farhan Akhtar’s DON: THE KING IS BACK has posted some great numbers during the opening weekend, netting in excess of 46 crores (a new non-holiday weekend record). Though the single screens are lower at 45-55 percent (on an average) the multiplexes are simply magical, even during the weekdays (Monday & Tuesday). The film has obtained amazing numbers (despite Christmas holiday at many cinemas) from the overseas grossing £513,275 from UK during the 5-day weekend (21-25 December) and $2,081,205 from the US during the opening 4-day weekend (23-26 December). It is obvious that DON 2 is on course to be a clear hit if not more, as we had said in our Saturday update.

Checking out JO HUM CHAHEIN, the film saw poor collections of 5 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 10 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Delhi city and 1 lakh from Calcutta. Netting around 40 lakhs during the opening week, JO HUM CHAHEIN is a washout.

The other release of the same week, the Vinay Pathak and Neha Dhupia starrer PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA failed to appeal to the audience as it collected 10 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 8 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Pune, 6 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida, 1 lakh from Ghaziabad, 1.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.20 lakhs from Calcutta, and 1.50 lakhs from Hyderabad. Netting slightly in excess of 50 lakhs PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA is a trade disaster.

Meanwhile Yash Raj Films’ LADIES VS RICKY BAHL crashed in the second week, as it collected 1.15 crore from Bombay (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Surat, 6.50 lakhs from Baroda(collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 3.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 10 lakhs from Pune, 4 lakhs from Nasik, 2.75 lakhs from Goa, 1.60 lakhs from Belgaum, 85 lakhs from Delhi city, 12 lakhs from Noida, 8.25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5 lakhs from Kanpur, 10 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.25 lakhs from Agra, 2.35 lakhs from Allahabad, 16.65 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.65 lakhs from Panipat, 7.60 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2.60 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2 lakhs from Amritsar, 3.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.70 lakhs from Bhatinda, 24.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 3 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 8 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.20 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5.30 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 3 lakhs from Bhopal, 12.75 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 1 lakh from Bikaner, 3 lakhs from Kota, 3 lakhs from Udaipur, 20 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.30 lakhs from Aurangabad, 1 lakh from Latur, 20 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.75 lakhs from Mangalore and 1.35 lakhs from Visakhapatnam. Adding another 7.50 crores LADIES VS RICKY BAHL has netted 31.50 crores in two weeks from India. The film is an average plus fare after accounting for the non-theatrical rights. LADIES VS RICKY BAHL has not performed well in the overseas grossing £165,000 from UK till the third weekend (23-25 December) and $ 222,000 from the US.

Moving on to Balaji Motion Pictures and Alt. Entertainment’s Milan Luthria directed Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor starrer, THE DIRTY PICTURE, the film has another very steady week to show as it collected 1.10 crore from Bombay (collections from 27 cinemas unreceived), 30.65 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Surat, 7 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Rajkot, 11 lakh from Pune, 4.65 lakhs from Nasik, 2.20 lakhs from Goa, 1 lakh from Belgaum, 1 crore from Delhi city, 10.35 lakhs from Noida, 6.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 7.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 12.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.65 lakhs from Agra, 4.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 13.35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.30 lakhs Panipat, 6 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.55 lakhs from Amritsar, 2.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.55 lakhs from Bhatinda, 23 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.20 lakhs from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 15.10 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.55 lakhs from Jabalpur, 6 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.60 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 3.30 lakhs from Bhopal, 14 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 2.20 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.20 lakhs from Kota, 3 lakhs from Udaipur, 19 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Latur, 25 lakhs from Bangalore, 2.20 lakhs from Mangalore and 1 .25 lakhs from Madras. Adding another 8 crores THE DIRTY PICTURE has netted a superb 76 crores in three weeks from India. With the dubbed versions (Tamil & Telugu) adding approximately 4 crores, THE DIRTY PICTURE is a blockbuster. The film though has not done well in the overseas (better in US) grossing £131,500 from UK and $462,000 from the US.

Concluding with Rohit Dhawan’s DESI BOYZ, the film is ending it’s run as it collects 5 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Baroda, 2 lakhs from Delhi city and 1.50 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding another 25 lakhs DESI BOYZ has netted 48.25 in four weeks from India and is an above average fare, taking into account the non-theatrical rights and UK subsidy. The film has also done well in the overseas grossing £586,305 from UK till the fifth weekend (23-25 December) and $1078, 826 from the US.
