AKSHAYE KHANNA and SHRIYA SARAN in GALI GALI CHOR HAI
This Friday’s solo release, Akshaye Khanna’s GALI GALI CHOR HAI, highlights the highly topical and prevalent issue of corruption in almost every section of the society. As the promos of the film have publicized the same point quite well, even if GGCH gets a decent word-of-mouth, the low budget flick can manage to surprise!

As was expected and predicted, Karan Malhotra’s Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor starrer, AGNEEPATH, has seen a huge opening extended weekend (4-days) and has netted in the range of 62-64 crore (approx). On to the details, after a record breaking first day, the film saw an alarming fall on the working Friday but picked up again on the remaining two days of the weekend for a bountiful haul. Even the weekdays have seen quite stable collections. As AGNEEPATH has a cost of 72-75 crore (all inclusive), more than half of which has already been recovered from satellite and audio rights, it is sure to emerge a hit, if not more. The film is having a good run in the overseas grossing £346,500 in the UK and $1,213,096 from the US during the opening weekend (26-29 January).

Moving on, Shiney Ahuja’s GHOST saw a big fall but still managed to sail to safety. Adding another 1.50 crore GHOST has netted 7 crores in two weeks from India and is a below average fare.

Checking out Abbas-Mustan’s Abhishek, Bipasha, Bobby, Sonam and Neil starrer PLAYERS, the film saw a reasonable steady week (as compared to the previous one) collecting 35 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Surat, 5.55 lakhs from Baroda, 3.50 lakhs from Pune, 2.15 lakhs from Nasik, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.20 lakhs from Noida, 3.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.60 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs from Agra, 1.65 lakhs from Allahabad, 4.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.15 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 8.30 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Bhopal, 5.35 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Kota, 4.20 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5.15 lakhs from Bangalore. The film has also disappointed in the overseas grossing £ 229,700 from UK and $341,499 from the US till the fourth weekend (26-29 January).

With another 1.25 crore during its latest outing DON 2 has netted 108.75 crores in five weeks from India and the dubbed (Tamil & Telugu) version(s) have added another 3.50 crores. The film is a hit plus in India and a superhit for Reliance Big Pictures, who paid Rs. 80 crore (excluding print & publicity cost) for the global rights of DON 2 and have already recovered 45 crores from the satellite and audio rights.
