Box Office Report: 3rd August 2017

This week will witness one of the most anticipated release(s) of thesecond half of the year, Imtiaz Ali’s Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrerJAB HARRY MET SEJAL. The other film slated for release is JAR Picture’s noirthriller, GURGAON starring Akshay Oberoi, Ragini Khanna and Pankaj Tripathi.Needless to add that the front runner by a long margin will be JHMJ, which islikely to embark on a good start, both in India and overseas. 

Checking out the premier release of last week, Anees Bazmee’s Anil-ArjunKapoor starrer MUBARAKAN, after a decent opening day the film picked upbeautifully peaking on Sunday netting 23-24 crore during its opening week fromIndia, which given the current box-office scenario, is quite praiseworthy.Having said that, the film will have to give way to SRK’s JAB HARRY MET SEJALwhich would definitely hamper its prospects and so it will not be able toachieve its full potential. MUBARAKAN is alright in the overseas grossing $1.35with £105,000 from UK and $310,000 from the US, during the opening weekend(28-30 July).

The other releases of the same week, Madhur Bhandarkar directed INDUSARKAR, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s RAAG DESH and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ BAARAT COMPANY,failed to impress at the ticket counter, despite the first two mentioned filmsgetting some good reviews.

Netting 31.50 crore during the opening weekfrom India, MUNNA MICHAEL has a rough road ahead at the box-office.

The other film of the same week, Prakash Jha’s Ratna Pathak and Konkana SenSharma starrer, LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA, which saw a limited release witnesseda superb pick up after an ordinary opening day as it collected 2.50crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 18.50 lakhs fromAhmedabad, 10.15 lakhs from Surat, 8.75 lakhs from Baroda, 1.25 lakhs fromRajkot, 50 lakhs from Pune, 3.50 lakhs from Nasik, 7.50 lakhs from Goa, 1.50 crorefrom Delhi city, 40 lakhs from Noida, 17.85 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 7.65 lakhsfrom Kanpur, 20 lakhs from Lucknow , 3 lakhs from Agra, 3.15 lakhs fromAllahabad, 1 lakh from Aligarh, 5.75 lakhs from Dehradun, 50 lakhs fromGurgaon, 10.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.15 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 1.50 lakhsfrom Panipat, 11.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 4 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2.50 lakhsfrom Amritsar, 6.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 25 lakhs from Calcutta, 4 lakhs fromPatna, 1 lakh from Dhanbad, 1.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 2.50 lakhs fromBhubaneshwar, 10 lakhs from Nagpur, 6.50 lakhs from Raipur, 15 lakhs fromIndore, 1.75 lakhs from Gwalior, 10 lakhs from Bhopal, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 2lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.50 lakhs from Kota, 3.15 lakhs fromUdaipur, 15 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.55 lakhs from Aurangabad, 55 lakhs fromBangalore, 2 lakhs from Mangalore,  2.25lakhs from Madras and 2.50 lakhs from Kochi. Netting nearly 11 crore duringthe opening week from India, LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA is already an aboveaverage fare, and has every chance of upgrading further.

Meanwhile, after a not so great opening week (46 crore) the Anurag Basudirected Ranbir-Katrina starrer JAGGA JASOOS crashed in the second week collecting1.25 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 18.75 lakhsfrom Ahmedabad, 9.50 lakhs from Surat, 6.15 lakhs from Baroda, 5 lakhs fromRajkot, 40 lakhs from Pune, 4 lakhs from Nasik, 4.15 lakhs from Goa, 1 lakhfrom Belgaum, 80 lakhs from Delhi city, 24 lakhs from Noida, 15 lakhs fromGhaziabad, 8.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 15 lakhs from Lucknow , 2.75 lakhs fromAgra, 3.15 lakhs from Allahabad, 6.25 lakhs from Dehradun, 25 lakhs fromGurgaon, 7.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 2 lakhs from Panipat, 7.50 lakhs fromChandigarh, 2.75 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.25 lakhs from Patiala, 2.55 lakhs fromAmritsar, 3.75 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.15 lakhs from Bhatinda, 60 lakhs fromCalcutta, 5.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 5.25 lakhs from Patna, 2 lakhs fromDhanbad, 3.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 3.20 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 2.50 lakhs fromGuwahati, 10 lakhs from Nagpur, 5 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 1.50lakhs from Gwalior, 5 lakhs from Bhopal, 10 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from2 cinemas unrecieved), 2.75 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1 lakh from Ajmer, 1 lakh fromBikaner, 1.75 lakhs from Kota, 2 lakhs from Udaipur, 20 lakhs from Hyderabad,3.75 lakhs from Aurangabad, 45 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.55 lakhs from Mangaloreand 1 lakh from Mysore. Adding another 9 crore, JAGGA JASOOS hasnetted 55 crore in two weeks from India and has failed at the box-office. JAGGAJASOOS has also been rejected in the overseas grossing £195,000 from UK and$855,000 from the US, till the third weekend (28-30 July).

Concluding with Boney Kapoor’s Sridevi , Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin starrerMOM, the film added another 2 crore plus, thus netting 35 crore in three weeksfrom India and is a below average fare after accounting for the non-theatricalrights.
