This Friday will see multiple releases in the form of DEHRADUN DIARY, MERI SHAADI KARAO, RAJDHANI EXPRESS – POINT BLANK JUSTICE and TABLE No. 21. While the two week old DABANGG 2 will still be a strong opponent, from the bunched releases it is likely to be a close race between RAJDHANI EXPRESS and TABLE NO. 21., for the first position.
We have already talked about the stupendous and record breaking opening weekend of Arbaaz Khan’s Salman, Sonakshi and Prakash Raj starrer, DABANGG 2. The weekdays too proved to be very steady. Given the fact that the Khans are self-distributing the film in Bombay (Thru Steller Films Pvt. Ltd.) and in Delhi-U.P. & East Punjab (in partnership with Yash Raj Films Distributors), as also in Rajasthan, C.P. Berar and C.I. So it is a win-win situation for Arbaaz & Co., especially if one adds all the other earnings (satellite, overseas, video and Doordarshan, and the remaining circuits of India) that are already in the bank for them!
Coming to the numbers, DABANGG 2 collected 14 crore from Bombay, 3.50 crore from Ahmedabad, 76.55 lakhs from Surat, 75 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 2.75 crore from Pune, 27 lakhs from Goa, 17.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 9 crore from Delhi city, 1.15 crore from Noida, 85 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 81.20 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.50 crore from Lucknow, 40 lakhs from Agra, 64 lakhs from Allahabad, 10 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.65 crore from Gurgaon, 28.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 11.50 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 17 lakhs from Panipat, 34.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 39.55 lakhs from Jalandhar, 13 lakhs from Amritsar, 28.35 lakhs from Ludhiana, 12.50 lakhs from Bhatinda, 11 lakhs from Ambala, 12.25 lakhs from Jammu, 3.20 crore from Calcutta, 3.20 lakhs from Darjeeling, 25.20 lakhs from Siliguri, 13 lakhs from Dhanbad, 10.25 lakhs from Ranchi, 16.65 lakhs from Guwahati, 1.15 crore from Nagpur, 65 lakhs from Raipur, 1.55 crore from Indore (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 25.50 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 60 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 2.75 crore from Jaipur, 20 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 35 lakhs from Ajmer, 16 lakhs from Bikaner, 57.65 lakhs from Kota, 36 lakhs from Udaipur, 2.65 crore from Hyderabad, 50 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2.15 crore from Bangalore, 9 lakhs from Vijayawada, 11.25 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 9.50 lakhs from Madras, 3 lakhs from Coimbatore and 5.50 lakhs from Kochi. Netting close to 102.50 crore during the opening week, DABANGG 2 is on way to a blockbuster status.
The film is on way to be a super hit (bumper in US) in the overseas with more than $ 7 m, grossing £738,800 from UK and $2,200,000 from the US till the second weekend (28-30 December).
Meanwhile Ashish R. Mohan’s Akshay-Asin starrer, KHILADI 786, sees a premature death due to the DABANGG 2 tsunami as the film collected 10 lakhs from Bombay, 9.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.15 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Baroda (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Pune, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.75 lakhs from Noida, 1.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 2.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.65 lakhs from Raipur, 1.50 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Gwalior, 2.50 lakhs from Bhopal, 4.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 2 lakhs from Ajmer and 3.15 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding another 1.50 crore KHILADI 786 has netted 66.50 crore in three weeks from India and will end as an above average fare.
KHILADI 786 though has disappointed in the overseas grossing £ 215,000 from UK and $ 381,500 from the US till the fourth weekend (28-30 December).
Concluding with Reema Kagti’s TALAASH, the DABANGG 2 wave has ended its run too as the film collected 20 lakhs from Bombay, 1.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 4.50 lakhs from Pune, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.25 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Lucknow, 4 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Indore, 1.65 lakhs from Hyderabad and 10 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 1.25 crore TALAASH has netted 91.25 crore in four weeks from India.
The Aamir, Rani, Kareena and Nawaz starrer ends up as a semi-hit.
TALAASH is a super hit in the overseas (bumper in US) grossing £911,300 from UK and $ 2,716,500 from the US till the fifth weekend (28-30 December)
