LADIES VS RICKY BAHL
The coming Friday will witness the release of Yash Raj Films’ LADIES VS RICKY BAHL. Starring Ranveer Singh, Anushka, Dipannita and Mrinalini Sharma, the Maneesh Sharma directed con movie is expected to embark on an average to good start (especially at metro multiplexes) thanks to some intelligent promos and catchy music. The other release of the week, Maqbool Khan’s LANKA may not be able to match up to LADIES VS RICKY BAHL at the multiplexes but will surely appeal to the interiors. What must be kept in mind is that THE DIRTY PICTURE will be a formidable opponent to both LADIES VS RICKY BAHL and LANKA, even during the second week.

The good opening of Balaji Motion Pictures and Alt. Entertainment’s Milan Luthria directed Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor starrer, THE DIRTY PICTURE, was never in doubt, thanks to some honest and in-your-face promotions and also “Ooh La La”. But the film surpassed all expectations netting an excellent 32.62 crores (including the Tamil & Telugu dubbed versions) breaking in to the best ever top 10 first three days chart. The film has also maintained very well during the week days and is on way to a sure shot super hit status. THE DIRTY PICTURE has not done much in the overseas (barring US) grossing £ 44,000 from UK and $ 268,000 from US during the opening weekend (2-4 December).

Moving on, Rohit Dhawan’s DESI BOYZ saw diminishing collections during the weekdays as it obtained 4 crores from Bombay (collections from 61 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 crore from Ahmedabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 35 lakhs from Surat, 35 lakhs from Baroda, 7 lakhs from Bharuch, 42 lakhs from Rajkot, 13 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 7.50 lakhs from Jamnagar, 5.55 lakhs from Bhuj, 5.75 lakhs from Gandhidham, 52 lakhs from Pune (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Solapur, 17.65 lakhs from Nasik, 3.75 lakhs from Malegaon, 6 lakhs from Belgaum, 4 crores from Delhi city, 55 lakhs from Noida, 40 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 30 lakhs from Kanpur, 45 lakhs from Lucknow, 22.25 lakhs from Agra, 12 lakhs from Allahabad, 8 lakhs from Meerut, 5 lakhs from Aligarh, 70 lakhs from Gurgaon, 12.60 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.35 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 10.25 lakhs from Panipat, 30 lakhs from Chandigarh, 7.25 lakhs from Zirakpur, 15 lakhs from Jalandhar, 10 lakhs from Amritsar, 11.30 lakhs from Ludhiana, 8 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1 crore from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 9.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 6.30 lakhs from Guwahati, 35 lakhs from Nagpur, 15 lakhs from Jabalpur, 7.20 lakhs from Amravati, 30 lakhs from Raipur, 50.35 lakhs from Indore (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 6 cinemas unreceived), 30.35 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1.05 crore from Jaipur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 7.20 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 14 lakhs from Ajmer, 9 lakhs from Bikaner, 30 lakhs from Kota, 13.25 lakhs from Udaipur, 1 crore from Hyderabad, 11.35 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Latur, 3 lakhs from Nanded, 1 lakh from Parbhani, 70 lakhs from Bangalore, 9 lakhs from Mangalore, 3 lakhs from Vijaywada, 5.25 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 6 lakhs from Madras and 5.20 lakhs from Kochi. During the opening week DESI BOYZ has netted 38.50 crore from India. Thanks to the 27 crore satellite rights, 6-7 crore audio rights and 15-16 crore UK subsidy (to be received later this month), DESI BOYZ is moving towards an above average status. The film has also done very well in the overseas (especially US) grossing £480,000 from UK and $985,000 from US till the second weekend (2- 4 December).

Meanwhile DAM 999 could not achieve anything significant as it collected 15 lakhs from Bombay, 5 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.65 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Raipur, 1 lakh from Indore, 1 lakh from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.30 lakhs from Bangalore, and 7 lakhs from Kochi. Netting just about 65 lakhs during the first week from India, DAM 999 (dubbed and English) is a trade disaster.

Concluding with Imtiaz Ali’s Ranbir-Nargis starrer, ROCKSTAR, the film saw a heavy fall during the third week as it collected 40 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 10 cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Surat, 3.25 lakhs from Baroda, 1 lakh from Rajkot, 4 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 51 lakhs from Delhi city, 8 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 4.30 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.10 lakhs from Agra, 10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.20 lakhs from Faridabad, 4 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Zirakpur, 1.35 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Amritsar, 1 lakh from Ludhiana, 6 lakhs from Calcutta, 6.40 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.20 lakhs from Raipur, 4.50 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Gwalior, 8 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh from Ajmer, 1.60 lakhs from Kota, 11 lakhs from Hyderabad, 12 lakhs from Bangalore and 1 .15 lakhs from Kochi. Adding another 3.25 crores, ROCKSTAR has netted 68.25 crores in three weeks from India and is a semi-hit. The film has also done very well in the overseas grossing £365,000 from UK and $986,000 from US till the fourth weekend (2- 4 December).
