BAREILLY KI BARFI AND PARITION: 1947

Get ready for some alternate menu this week as there are some really hat ke and different releases coming up, namely the Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmaan Khurrana and Kriti Sanon starrer, BAREILLY KI BARFI, Tiranga Films’ SHREELANCER and Gurinder Chadha’s PARITION : 1947 (dubbed). Having said that the week old TOILET –EK PREM KATHA is most likely to be the front runner, yet again, and prove too hot for the newbies to handle.

Moving on, after just a decent opening day (12.50 crore), Akshay Kumar’s latest film, TOILET- EK PREM KATHA, saw a magical pick up during the next two days, with Sunday being outstanding . The film ended up netting 50 crore during the opening weekend from India. Given the rock steady weekdays and aided by tax-free status and holidays, TOILET-EPK is sure to end with a big haul of 95-100 crore, during the first week itself, and all chances that the film may turn out to be that elusive super-duper hit that the industry is thirsting for!

TOILET- EK PREM KATHA is not on the same level (as India) in the overseas (good in US), grossing $1.95m with £130,000 from UK and $680,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (11-13 August).

Checking out Imtiaz Ali’s SRK-Anushka starrer, JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, after a decent opening weekend (45 crore), the film crashed Tuesday onwards, collecting 8 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 1.20 crore from Ahmedabad, 60 lakhs from Surat, 45.50 lakhs from Baroda, 25 lakhs from Rajkot, 2 crore from Pune, 23.15 lakhs from Nasik, 31.50 lakhs from Goa, 6.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 5.55 crore from Delhi city, 1.50 crore from Noida, 70 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 50 lakhs from Kanpur, 1 crore from Lucknow , 27.25 lakhs from Agra, 17.55 lakhs from Allahabad, 8 lakhs from Aligarh, 36.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 1.50 crore from Gurgaon, 45 lakhs from Faridabad, 5.25 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 9 lakhs from Panipat, 40.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 21.55 lakhs from Jalandhar, 8.55 lakhs from Patiala, 17.55 lakhs from Amritsar, 28 lakhs from Ludhiana, 6.15 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3.15 lakhs from Ambala, 2.15 lakhs from Shimla, 3.50 lakhs from Jammu, 2.25 crore from Calcutta, 20 lakhs from Siliguri, 30 lakhs from Patna, 7.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 20.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 18.55 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 11.75 lakhs from Guwahati, 50 lakhs from Nagpur, 35 lakhs from Raipur, 60 lakhs from Indore, 20 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 35 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 4 cinemas unrecieved), 1.25 crore from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 19 lakhs from Jodhpur , 11 lakhs from Ajmer, 5.50 lakhs from Bikaner, 21.50 lakhs from Kota, 15.75 lakhs from Udaipur, 1.85 crore from Hyderabad, 22.15 lakhs from Aurangabad, 2.50 crore from Bangalore, 16.15 lakhs from Mangalore, 14.50 lakhs from Mysore, 6.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 12.75 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 22 lakhs from Madras and 16.75 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 60 crore during the opening week from India, JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, is a box-office debacle.

JAB HARRY MET SEJAL is much better in the overseas but the collections are falling hard. The film grossed nearly $9m with £580,000 from UK and $1,865,000 from the US, till the second weekend (11-13 August).

Meanwhile, Anees Baazmee’s Anil-Arjun starrer MUBARAKAN, saw a very steady run as it collected 1.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 36.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 21 lakhs from Surat, 16.25 lakhs from Baroda, 5.25 lakhs from Rajkot, 45 lakhs from Pune, 5.55 lakhs from Nasik, 3.75 lakhs from Goa, 1.50 crore from Delhi city, 31 lakhs from Noida, 28.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 18 lakhs from Kanpur, 35.15 lakhs from Lucknow , 10.65 lakhs from Agra, 3.75 lakhs from Allahabad, 3 lakhs from Aligarh, 11.15 lakhs from Dehradun, 30 lakhs from Gurgaon, 21 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.25 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 4.50 lakhs from Panipat, 12 lakhs from Chandigarh, 6.25 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.50 lakhs from Patiala, 7 lakhs from Amritsar, 10.75 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.50 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1.50 lakhs from Ambala, 25 lakhs from Calcutta, 3.15 lakhs from Siliguri, 4.15 lakhs from Patna, 2.55 lakhs from Dhanbad, 6.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 2.15 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 11.55 lakhs from Nagpur, 16.50 lakhs from Raipur, 22 lakhs from Indore, 6 lakhs from Gwalior, 15 lakhs from Bhopal, 35 lakhs from Jaipur , 7 lakhs from Jodhpur , 7 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.75 lakhs from Bikaner, 6.50 lakhs from Kota, 7 lakhs from Udaipur, 35 lakhs from Hyderabad, 5.75 lakhs from Aurangabad, 25 lakhs from Bangalore and 2.50 lakhs from Mangalore. Adding another 12.50 crore, MUBARAKAN has netted 48 crore in two weeks from India, but will at best be a coverage film, after accounting for the non-theatrical rights.

MUBARAKAN is quite good in the overseas (especially US), grossing $2.75m with £260,000 from UK and $745,000 from the US, till the third weekend (11-13 August).

Concluding yet again with Prakash Jha’s Ratna Pathak and Konkona Sen Sharma starrer, LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA, the film added another 2 crore, thus netting a very creditable 19 crore in three weeks from India and is a semi-hit.
