NARGIS FAKHRI in ROCKSTAR
|
|
2011 in particular has been the year when new paradigms related to fashion have been conveyed through cinema. The thin dividing line that used to distinguish between fashion shows and cinema characterized by models walking the fashion show and film stars doing their part about fashion through cinema became blurred and the film stars took over the cat walks in a big way. Result was that during 2011, there hardly was a fashion show that did not find representation from the world of cinema on the cat walk. Here are some of the significant role changers that gave a new idiom to fashion through either cinema or modeling.
Sonam Kapoor: The actor who diffused the difference between fashion and cinema in a big way was Sonam Kapoor who graced fashion shows with relative ease, as did she come up with fashion statements through scores of films that she did, be it MAUSAM or THANK YOU. She set the trend for fashion when she was invited at the Cannes Film Festival and when she was part of the reception party to welcome Tom Cruise in India to promote MISSION IMPOSSIBLE-4.
Nargis Fakhri: In an unstated manner, but through a subtle underlining Nargis Fakhri through ROCKSTAR brought back the traditional Kashmiri handicraft to fashion by sporting the garments in various combinations, whether when she was enacting the role in Delhi University campus, at her marriage in the film or even in Prague. The rich Kashmiri embroidery stood out, and may be Kashmir government, especially the handicraft department should choose her as a brand ambassador to promote their craft.
Deepika Padukone: Singular contribution of Deepika Padukone towards making a fashion statement was by reestablishing sari in the popular fashion lexicon. She made it emphatically through AARAKSHAN and the matching sleeveless blouses would indeed be one of the fashion statements for 2011. Incidentally at the end of the year with THE DIRTY PICTURE Vidya Balan gave a new idiom to sari, and one should not forget the red sari which Kareena Kapoor wore in RA.ONE in ‘Chammak Challo’ song, which again has become a craze. It is the same craze that Kareena Kapoor had established when she had worn the orange sari in 3 IDIOTS.
Ranbir Kapoor: With ROCKSTAR Ranbir Kapoor diffused the gap between of genders in the sartorial arena by choosing to wear canvas pants, trousers with linings, as also loose salwars and teaming it up with half-kurtas in as diverse materials as one could imagine, and the result was that in the winters in Delhi the ROCKSTAR brand of attire has become a rage.
Abhay Deol: The man who is known for his cool looks came out with a new fashion statement in 2011. He brought the humble pair of spectacles on to the mainstream and made them a part of sartorial attire connoting a serious intellectual demeanor and henceforth one would not think twice before wearing a pair of spectacles.
Incidentally, in this category was also included Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh, but the kind of coolness that Abhay brought to spectacles was a treat to watch out for in ZNMD.
Priyanka Chopra: Priyanka Chopra made her fashion statement for the year 2011 with ganjis and torn Jeans, first by wearing them in the IPL matches and then following them up in her public appearances at scores of occasions.
Such being the trend for the year gone by, it would be interesting to watch out what kind of fashion statements would be made by the stars in the coming year. Just watch out this space.
