4084: Age no barrier for Naseer's powerpack performances

Monday, December 26, 2011 6:34:23 PM (IST) | Enkayaar, Bollywood Trade Editorial

If you are a consummate performer, then in your acting career, time indeed comes when you start commandeering a position, and the producers and directors start backing you up, in the form of making tailor made roles for you. It happened with Big B and now even Naseeruddin Shah seems to be following in the sake league, manifest from the lead role that he has been given in 4084. It is after a long time that Naseeruddin Shah plays the role of a cop and one only hopes that it would stand in the same league as it was with TRIDEV which was the occasion when Naseeruddin Shah walked over into the world of commercial cinema.

As a matter of fact Naseeruddin Shah could be considered one of the most successful stars for the year 2011 as he has been an integral part of the highly successful film THE DIRTY PICTURE. 4084 in fact provides an opportunity to underline the kind of performances that he has given during the last two years or so, whereby he can now be considered to be at par with Big B as far as enacting the role of character acting is considered.

THE DIRTY PICTURE: Playing the role of stars of the South Indian Hindi films of the eighties in shoddy wigs, pencil line moustaches and lustful eyes, roving for the Silk Smitha, the manner in which he could infuse lecherousness in his character is a performance that few actors would be able to deliver.

7 KHOON MAAF: Vishal Bhardwaj must be blessing his fortunes that he got a performer like Naseeruddin Shah for his films, and the kind of performance that he gave in 7 KHOON MAAF was a clear pointer to the fact that there still is quite a lot of performance still to come from this maestro.

ISHQIYA: As a lover hopelessly in love with a married woman and also as a part time thief Naseeruddin Shah was one of the key edifice responsible for making ISHQIYA a huge success, and one wonders whether the chemistry that Naseeruddin Shah displayed on the screen in ISHQIYA was the factor responsible for his selection to enact the role in THE DIRTY PICTURE.

ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA: As a painter who loves to paint, though having a miniscule role in ZNMD, Naseeruddin Shah was able to pack a punch in his role.

A WEDNESDAY: The evolution of Naseeruddin Shah as a character actor in commercial cinema began in a real sense with A WEDNESDAY where the angst of a middle class citizen of Mumbai against the failure of the system to provide security to its citizens was played to perfection by Naseeruddin Shah.

Such being the level of his performance, no wonder, Naseeruddin Shah has given a voice over to an advertisement campaign for JP Group of industries that really marks his arrival as an actor par excellence. 4084 should add one more feather to his crown of performances.
