2012 as it comes to a close would also be remembered in the annals of the Hindi cinema where Hindi film actresses created their own niche and also contributed to the success of a film in no less a significant manner than their male counterparts. Here is a look at these actresses who underlined the fact that they are no more just items of show piece in the plot of a film, but are an integral part of the success story of the film or rather one should say now they are the box office queens.

Priyanka Chopra: Piggy Chops with two contrasting performances, one as a typical Marathi girl living in the slums of Mumbai having aspirations and dreams to make her life in Mumbai in a respectful manner in AGNEEPATH, and other as an autistic child who may have grown physically, but continued to have a mind of a child in BARFI! underlined the fact that indeed she is an actor worth reckoning. Icing on the cake for her was her debut as a pop star wherein she made waves all over the world with the number-Life in a city.

Vidya Balan: Totally deconstructing the image that she had created in the mind of the audience with THE DIRTY PICTURE Vidya Balan gave a consummate performance in KAHAANI and on her own performance made this film a critically acclaimed and a box office success. She followed it up with a lavani number in FERRARI KI SAWAARI and provided the necessary spicy ingredient that was needed to make FKS a success at the box office.

Kareena Kapoor: She had one major release in the form of EK MAIN AUR EKK TU opposite Imran Khan and followed it up with TALAASH with Aamir Khan and underlined the fact that be it the uncle or the nephew the manner in which she serenades her co-stars on the screen make the fans swoon and ensure that the film is a success at the box office.

Katrina Kaif: She has indeed emerged as the force to be reckoned with at the box office, and she gave an inkling of having arrived with her super sexy performance in the item number-Chickni Chameli and followed it up action oriented role in EK THA TIGER and as a hopeless romantic in JAB TAK HAI JAAN underlined the fact that she is here for a long haul.

Sonakshi Sinha: She is the second actress apart from Katrina Kaif who is a part of the 100 crore business club of Hindi cinema in the year 2012 as two of her films ROWDY RATHORE and SON OF SARDAAR entered into this exalted club. With DABANGG 2 releasing within a week, she could be queen of the box office for 2012. Her charm lies in the fact that she has chosen to, either by choice or fortuitously to be in Indian costumes, which may endear the fans in the country side.

Asin: Asin is the third actress in 2012 to be a part of the 100 crore  club following in the footsteps of Katrina and Sonakshi Sinha with two hits in her kitty BOL BACHCHAN and HOUSEFULL 2.

One only hopes that in 2013 one would see the actresses of the likes of Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor to be included in the list.
