Though 2010 proved unpredictable for Bollywood, what with some highly anticipated, big star cast & renowned filmmakers’ films trickling down at Box-office, there have been few other films which acted as a saving grace. Following is the list of films which emerged as winners.
ISHQIYA: This was 2010's first clean hit which starred Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. Where many big films failed to create any mark, this Vishal Bhardwaj directed emerged as a surprise winner.
MY NAME KHAN: When the power couple of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan & Kajol is involved success is guaranteed. Despite being mobbed with several controversies, the film was a big hit and was well-received by audiences & critics alike.
ATITHI TUM KAB JAAOGE: Just like its refreshing content & pair (Ajay-Konkona), ATITHI came as a refreshing success in an otherwise dull time of Bollywood.
LOVE, SEX AUR DHOKHA (LSD): Producer Ekta Kapoor and director Dibakar Banerjee's (KHOSLA KA GHOSLA, OYE LUCKY LUCKE OYE) film LSD opened to impressive collections along with great reviews. The film was touted as innovative, ground-breaking, original & riveting.
HOUSEFULL: Sajid Khan's slapstick comedy got bumper opening despite being slammed by critics. It also ended Akki's bad run at the box office, after a series of big flops last year. This multi-starrer is one of the biggest blockbusters of 2010.
RAAJNEETI: Prakash Jha's political drama is one of the few movies to gain both critical acclaim and commercial success. RAAJNEETI's ensemble cast, power-packed performances, second time pairing of two hottest stars Ranbir-Katrina and its enthralling storyline were more than enough to make it the topmost grossing film and biggest blockbuster of the year.
I HATE LUV STORYS: The Imran Khan-Sonam Kapoor starrer received mixed reviews yet the film is said to be one of the top grossers of the year.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI: Ajay & Emraan hit the jackpot with OUATIM turning out to be a major success at the box office. The Milan Luthria directed film managed to get major accolades from audiences and critics across the board! The film was loved for its retro theme, amazing dialogues, riveting plot.
PEEPLI [LIVE]: When perfectionist Aamir Khan is at the helm of affairs you sure know the outcome. The film garnered very good reviews. The starless movie was loved for its brilliant writing and effective documentation.
DABANGG: Salman Khan is truly the winner of Bollywood Box office in 2010, as his film DABANGG is the highest grosser of the year. There are several factors which contributed for the film's super success - the star power of Salman Khan, fabulous music & songs with 'Munni Badnaam' becoming popular in every household, Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi Sinha debut venture. To cut the long story short it was a complete paisa vasool entertainer.
GOLMAAL 3: Director Rohit Shetty completed a successful rib-tickling smashing trilogy with GOLMAAL 3. It took the screens by storm and did wonderful business.
Now all eyes are set on Akshay-Katrina’s much-awaited film, TEES MAAR KHAN, which might be an addition to the above list once the film hits the screens on December 24, 2010.
