In 2011, film enters television serial as a part of content

SALMAN KHAN IN DABANGG
Innovativeness is yeast that is being adapted on a large platform by the television serial makers in a big way to catch the eye balls. One of the episodes of Balika Vadhu on Monday tried to take a giant stride forward by attempting to assimilate the content of cinema and built the story of the serial around it at least for next two three episodes. The film chosen for this experimentation was DABANGG.

Now Salman Khan would not have desired a much better way to keep the memory of public about his mega opus DABANGG alive in the eyes of the public through Balika Vadhu. It also was an attempt to reach out to the older generation of the audience through the Dadi of Balika Vadhu, who may otherwise not have seen DABANGG as for them the raunchiness of Munni Badnam Hui may have been the stumbling block. For the next two three episodes at least DABANGG would be discussed in great detail in the drawing rooms all over the country through Dadi as the Sutradhar.

DABANGG has therefore created another bench mark for the Hindi film industry as now the platform of serials can be used to keep the memory of a hit film alive by making it a part of the content of a serial. For Salman Khan 2011 has begun on an ominous note as without any of his new film being released, he has become a part of the discussion of drawing rooms all across the country, through Balika Vadhu.

Through this column the convergence of television and films was highlighted as one of the achievements of the film industry, characterized by the participation of film stars of all hues in one form of the television serial or the other. Now in the beginning of 2011 itself new portents for convergence have been thrown up.

One would like to observe how this new convergence pans out, as it is an attempt to ride on the platform of popularity of a film and extract as much benefit as could be possible. In the process, the by-product of sharing the revenue of popularity with the writers, song writers and music directors could also become a contentious issue. It indeed is interesting times.
