Sajid's HIMMATWALA song ‘Naino Mein Sapna': Does it hold a candle to the original version?

HIMMATWALA

Nostalgia is a part of the growing up psyche, nostalgia associated with songs, cinema or other such nuggets and it becomes a real challenge when one wants to re-create the magic more than a two decade after an element of nostalgia has been created around a song. The song in question which had stirred the consciousness of the nation and was the main reason why HIMMATWALA starring Jeetendra and Sridevi had become such a hit is ‘Naino Mein Sapna, Sapno Mein Sajna’.

Sajid Khan, who is remaking HIMMATWALA and has taken Ajay Devgn to play the role enacted by Jeetendra in the original film, has released the iconic song to create possibly the same buzz around the film, and to attain the audio nostalgia he has roped in Amit Kumar to sing the song sung by his father in his original film. However, Amit Kumar is not able to create the sense of gay abandon in the song that his father Kishore Kumar had done when he sung the original song and Shreya Ghoshal is a pale shadow of effervescence that Lata Mangeshkar had created in the original version.

The zing of the characters in the present version is missing in the song and they appear to be out of sync with the situation or are they rather mesmerized by the display of array of pots. In the original song the array of pots that have been displayed have been used enigmatically in the song, and the same does not seem to have been achieved in the present version.

One of the primary reasons why the present song does not have that element of zaniness could be owing to the fact that both Jeetendra and Sridevi were accomplished dancers, more so Sridevi who is an accomplished classical dancer and they seemed to be immersed in the song while that kind of submission to the song, the ambiance and the mood is not apparent in the present version. On the other had both Ajay Devgn and Tamannah seem to be making quite a lot of effort in enacting the emotions of the song. The song in original was more of a celebration of love and its manifestations were evident through the movements and expressions of Jeetendra and Sridevi, which the pair of Ajay Devgn and Tamanaah are not able to bring on in the modern version.

The present version of HIMMATWALA is touted as a film in which the audience has been supposedly involved from the initiation stage as its mahurat shot was streamed live over the net, but if that is the case, how is it that the audience has not given the feedback about the present song to the makers of the present version of HIMMATWALA?
