What makes 'Mahngai Dayan' endear?

PEEPLI LIVE's song 'Mehngai Dayan' has caught the imagination of the country and Aamir Khan not willing, it has emerged as a song of protest all over the country. The moot point is what makes it tick and endear the audience?
PEEPLI LIVE's song is in the tradition of folk song or 'birha' which was the song of migrant labourers, sung by them during the evenings after a drudged filled day. Birha is one of the most potent forms of folk songs in the Hindi belt that is used as a platform to communicate the idioms of protest, and it is always contemporary and contextual. In the cacophony of synthetic sounds, this form of folk in the form of a prose had been relegated to the scattered congregations deep inside the mofusill villages, but thanks to Indian Ocean band, which has done yeomen service to put in place the traditional Indian sounds and acoustics through its untiring effort, Birha is again on the way of revival. It is a form of song that would be favored by the common man of the street is it in the rural areas or the cities. It is a natural expression of the angst arising of the day to day struggle to eke out living and it has the rhythm of its own that does not follow a meter syntax or rhyme.
The instruments that define this form of song include a Harmonium, tabla, a pair of cymbals, and at the most a dafli and a kartal, all the instruments hand instruments, besides the sound of clapping arising in unison as the songs travel from one octave to another not bothering about a node slipping here or there.
Another reason why such songs endear is that there is an element of pang of separation embedded in the songs where the female or the male partner tries to bring in his separation from his beloved through the song, as it has happened in the song from PEEPLI LIVE.
One only hopes that is not a one-off trend but Mehngai dayan would indeed mark the return of the folk songs to Hindi cinema in a big way and the songs of cinema that have become synthetic would again take the organic flavor and develop a new band of fan following that would have its outreach all across the country.
