The old guard seem all set to take the center stage at the 64th Festival de Cannes, known as Cannes film Festival in India.
If we go by the reports appearing in the generally reliable western media even before the official announcement of the final list of films by Cannes authorities. New films by festival favorite helmers and past winners like Gus van Sant, Nanni Moretti, Lars von Trier, Terrence Malick, David Croneneberg, and the Dardenne brothers are rumored to be part of the line up. Here is the list:-
Moretti - WE HAVE HOPE
The Dardene Brothers - LE HAVRE
Gus van Sant – RESTLESS
Von Trier – MELANCHOLIA
David Cronenberg - A DANGEROUS METHOD
Terrence Malick - THE TREE OF LIFE
This is not all. Films from Aki Kaurismaki, Pedro Almodóvar, and Steve McQueen are also in the race according to these reports.
As already announced officially, Woody Allen’s comedy MIDNIGHT IN PARIS will open the festival with a ceremony that will be broadcast live across 400 French theaters. This romantic comedy was shot last year in the French capital, with a whole lot of controversy surrounding France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy’s role in the film. She is part of a strong international cast that includes Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Gad Elmaleh and Léa Seydoux.
