MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
Vincent Van Gogh’s painting ‘The Starry Night’ has inspired the creators of the poster for Woody Allen’s latest film MIDNIGHT IN PARIS that is slated to open the 2011 edition of the Festival de Cannes on May 11th, 2011. This romantic comedy was shot last year in the French capital, with a whole lot of controversy surrounding France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy’s role in the film. She is part of a strong international cast that includes Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Gad Elmaleh and Léa Seydoux.

‘Following London (MATCH POINT) and Barcelona (VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA), it’s the turn of Paris to be honored by the lens of the New York film director most appreciated by European audiences’, declared a Festival de Cannes press release. And contrary to vicious gossip mill buzz, Carla Bruni-Srakozy’s role in the film has not been axed. Mr. Woody Allen affirms her role saying, ‘She’s in the picture. Everything she shot is in the picture. I love her. She’s great. It’s not a big part, but it’s a respectable part.’

Produced by Médiapro (Spain) and Gravier Productions (New York), and distributed by Mars Films in France, the film is to be released in France the same day it is screened at Cannes. French audiences will thus be able to enjoy it in 400 theatres throughout the country. Cannes authorities are talking to Canal+ and the National Federation of French Theaters to show the opening programme of the Festival live to the audiences. It will be the first in the history of international film festivals. The 64th Festival de Cannes takes place May 11th to 22, 2011.

Woody Allen’s next untitled movie will be shot in Rome. The script of the film is in its final stages.
