Children's Film Society, India's Gujarati Film HARUN-ARUN directed by Vinod Ganatra has created laurels in the International Film Festival circuit and is following the path of his internationally acclaimed Hindi children film HEDA-HODA.
The ‘Golden Butterfly Award’ is the 9th International Award won by HARUN-ARUN at the 25th Isfahan International Film Festival, as BEST ASIAN FILM, out of 26 Films in competition. HARUN-ARUN was screened with full house during festival held from 13th to 19th November, 2011. ICFF aims at bringing together and promoting films from all over the world with special attention to the children and young adults and thereby help them to acquire better understanding.
It was a Grand Golden opportunity and the best treat that was extended to the Director backed by appreciation, praise and high respect and all this is naturally bound to be lasting and cherishing memory for the Director.
HARUN-ARUN started its journey with winning prestigious ‘Liv Ullmann Peace Prize’ at Chicago in November, 2009. It was conferred with ‘Best Juvenile Audience Award’ at Dhaka International Film Festival in January, 2010 and Transmedia ‘Critics Jury Award’ in March, 2010. It won ‘Light of Asia Award’ by the hands of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka Shri Mahinda Rajapaksha in June. 2010, followed by ‘CIFEJ Jury Prize’ & ‘Special Mention For Humanity Award’ by Children Jury at Rimouski International Film Festival, ‘Audience Award’ at ‘Freeze Frame Film Festival’, Winnipeg, Canada, ‘Best Costume Award’ at Augsburg Children’s Film Festival, Germany and has now bagged Golden Butterfly Award as Best Asian Film - 2011.
HARUN–ARUN is a cross over film, related to Indo-Pak Border, fully shot at Kutch border. The partition of India in 1947 divided not only country but so many hearts & families too. Thousands of people migrated from one side of Border to another side & one such separated man from his motherland Lakhpat in Kutch, India, is Rashid Suleman, now living in Pakistan with his only surviving grandson HARUN.
The film explores the story of young boy Harun, who is extremely fond of Indian film songs. The rough life in a hostile environment has taught Harun lot of survival skills. On hearing stories about his family in India, Harun is excited and keen to visit them, but on separation while crossing the border, Harun is compelled to undertake journey to Lakhpat on his own. On the Indian side, Harun comes across 3 Indian children who take him under their wings, hiding & protecting him without the knowledge of their mother Valbai, until he finds new home. An exuberant game of hide-and-seek ensues in this heartwarming story of youthful courage and powerful friendship in a divided nation.
This proves one point, that the issues of the heart are the issues of the world, not limited to any community or clan or Geographical boundaries.
