THE GOOD ROAD is about a boy separated from his family on a road trip. It’s a dangerous situation to be in and can put any family in a spot.

It is also about an 11-year-old girl, Poonam, on her way to meet her grandmother.

And there is also this truck driver on his last journey.

THE GOOD ROAD is about how the lives of the three central change over a period of 24 hours.

Director Gyan Correa narrates such riveting stories around a road journey on the Gujarat highway. The interesting characters put up in interesting situations, make this film an engaging watch. The viewer is glued to know how the three stories culminate to their destined ends.

David (Ajay Gehi) and Kiran (Sonali Kulkarni) set out on a holiday along with their seven-year-old-son Aditya (Keval Katrodia). Unfortunately, Aditya gets separated from them at a ‘dhaba’. The ‘dhaba’ owner puts him onto Pappu’s (Shamji Dhana Kerasia) truck with Shaukat the cleaner.

As for Poonam, she is dropped midway by a truck driver in this dissolute place that appears to be some sort of garment dying unit, but turns out to be something completely unexpected.

Without wasting much time, the film gets on the road (literally) from the very first scene. The characters are introduced and so are their conflicts. The narrative is smooth except for a sluggish middle portion. The way in which the seemingly disconnected stories converge in the film’s climax is wonderful.
At a broader level, the film is also about the transformations that the characters go through. It’s uplifting to see them change dramatically within a day’s time. Their experiences are what set the film apart.

The actors have been cast to the tee and do a fabulous job. Shamji Dhana Kerasia impresses as the truck driver and gives a completely natural performance. Ajay Gehi is decent. Sonali Kulkarni acts well. Child actors Keval Katrodia and Poonam Kesar Singh are remarkable. Priyank Upadhyay is good.
The simplicity of the script is the film’s strongest point. Amitabha Singh’s cinematography captures the environment  beautifully. Resul Pookutty’s sound design is wonderful and so is Rajat Dholakia’s music. The background score goes very well with the visuals. Paresh Kamdar’s editing could’ve been tighter.

Rating : 3/5
