RANBIR KAPOOR and PRIYANKA CHOPRA in ANJAANA ANJAANI
|
|
ANJAANA ANJAANI is being promoted as a love story between strangers. But if you actually see, all people are strangers before they meet for the first time. Anyway, the film has released after being postponed for a week because of the Ayodhya verdict.
Is it worth the wait? Yes. It’s a simple and refreshing love story with good performances. The pace is on the slower side, but it doesn’t get tedious.
Set against the economic meltdown in the US, Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) is a stock trader who has hit bankruptcy. Fed up, he wants to end his life and lands up on a bridge. Just as he is about to jump, he finds a drunk Kiara (Priyanka Chopra), who wants to commit suicide too. After numerous failed attempts, they finally decide to end their lives on 31st December, which is 20 days away. They agree to fulfill their unfinished wishes before their ‘death’ day (reminds one of THE BUCKET LIST).
Siddharth Anand (SALAAM NAMASTE, BACHNA AE HASEENO) takes his time to establish the principle characters. The first half is breezy as the bond between Akash and Kiara blossoms. But one wonders why they are insistent on committing suicide at the drop of a hat, even after fixing a particular date for the same. The scenes in the second half do get banal and drag. Though Mamta Anand’s script is inconsistent, it’s saved by Siddharth Anand’s mature direction.
The escapades of Akash and Kiara are fun and make the film watchable. You laugh and cry with them. Akash’s pole dancing sequence is uproarious and so is the swimming scene featuring Akash and Kaira.
Vishal-Shekar’s music is outstanding with Tu Na Jaane Aas Paas Hai Khuda being the best number. Salim-Sulaiman’s background score is superlative.
Ranbir Kapoor acts wonderfully. He keeps on raising his standard with every film. Priyanka Chopra gives a superlative performance. She’s very vivacious and casual. Watch out for Priyanka’s confrontation scene with Kunal (Zayed Khan). Also, the chemistry between Ranbir and Priyanka is sparkling. Zayed Khan’s cameo is decent.
ANJAANA ANJAANI is an ‘Anjaani’ love story. You will surely fall in love with it.
Rating: 3/5
