SALMAN KHAN AND CHILLAR PARTY TEAM
Salman Khan, who is one of the co-producers of CHILLAR PARTY, was apparently never approached to produce it. He decided to turn producer only once he saw it. After watching the film, we now understand why.

Once in a while comes a film that is made with a lot of heart and touches you with its sheer innocence. And CHILLAR PARTY is one such film.

It starts with the hilarious character introductions of the tiny tots. Shaolin (Divji Handa), Silencer (Vedant Desai), Lucky aka Panauti (Chinmai Chandranshuh), Balwan aka Jhangiya (Naman Jain), Arjun aka Encyclopedia (Sanath Menon), Laxman aka Second Hand (Vishesh Tiwari), Aflatoon (Aarav Khanna) and Ramashanker aka Akram (Rohan Grover) are colony and school buddies, who are collectively called chillar party. One day, a new kid Fatka (Irrfan Khan) along with his pet dog Bheedu, comes in their colony and starts working as a car cleaner. After initial resentment, they welcome him in their gang and he soon becomes an integral member of the chillar party. The kids face a tough situation when the colony members, due to political pressures, plan to throw Bheedu out of the colony. Will the chillar party be able to withstand this crisis?

Director duo Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari has made a wonderful slice-of-life film which tugs at your heartstrings. The characters are adorable and the bond between them is endearing. There is a constant smile on your face as you watch the proceedings. Like the recently released STANLEY KA DABBA, it subtly gives the message of being unselfish and going that extra mile for friends.

The smooth narrative is complimented by some hilarious sequences. You cannot just stop yourself from clapping and laughing your guts out on several occasions. One of them being Jhangiya speaking about Gandhi in tapori style.

However, the film isn't flawless. The graph does dip slightly in the long second half. It could have easily let go of the unnecessary flab. Even the climax, though not bad, doesn't leave you on a high.

Amit Trivedi's music blends with the narrative superbly. The dialogues are very real. The cinematography is good.

Naman Jain delivers the best performance. He acts brilliantly and is given some of the best lines. Irrfan Khan is natural. Watch out for the scene in which he is in despair to see Bheedu locked inside a car. Chinmai

Chandranshuh is funny. Sanath Menon acts well. All the other kids have given superb performances. Shashank Shende plays the scheming politician Bhide to perfection. Aakash Dahiya plays the character of Googly really well. Ranbir Kapoor appears in the end credits in his tapori item number.

CHILLAR PARTY is an honest and heartfelt film which makes you laugh, cry, clap and more importantly, think. Ekdum faadu hai boss!

Rating: 3.5/5
