ASHUTOSH GOWARIKAR
It is a known fact there are 50 odd teenagers in Ashutosh Gowariker's upcoming release KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY. Since the actors who play the lead protagonists in the film, Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, are mature actors, one can expect them to understand their characterization clearly and play their parts with full conviction. However, one wonders what it took for Ashu to actually flush out the character of each of the 50 teenagers in order to make them do complete justice to their presence in the film.

Smiles Ashu, "It was quite simple actually because my reference material, the book 'Do and Die', pretty finely detailed the revolution. It has extensive coverage on how did it all happen, what was the trigger point, who were these 55 kids, what was their driving force and stuff alike. In the film, we have tried to capture that through the title track which features these teenagers."

Due to this very reason, even Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone came on board pronto because they were mighty impressed about this tale from the past where a bunch of teenagers had picked up arms.

"Let aside being impressed, they were shocked and even embarrassed", informs Ashu, "They had never heard about any such revolution, just like most of the country hasn't. Once I detailed the film's storyline to them, they didn't have any questions. There was an immediate attention from them and they said 'Yes Ashu, we have to make this film and we would love to be a part of it.'"

And how did he resist the temptation of taking a jingoistic route? After all the last big patriotic film which turned out to be a huge blockbuster, GADAR, was abound with jingoism. "I can only tell you this much that I don’t believe in jingoism. Beyond that, you will know for yourself when you watch the film", is all that Ashu is willing to state here on the subject.
Well, we will wait to catch the film for sure once it releases all over on 3rd December 2010.
