Thursday, March 17, 2011 3:06:40 PM (IST) | Abid, Bollywood Trade Editorial

It is another open week with no new Hindi releases and so the distributors have continued with TANU WEDS MANU, 7 KHOON MAAF and PATIALA HOUSE. Additionally some recent hits of Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan have been re-released.

The audience kept a distance from the only significant release of last week, the decently made YEH FAASLEY, which barely managed to collect 5 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1.20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Pune, 4 lakhs from Delhi city and 1 lakh from Noida. In its opening week, the Anupam Kher, Pawan Malhotra and Tena Desae starrer is a disaster netting just about 30 lakhs.

Meanwhile TANU WEDS MANU continues its merry run at the ticket window collecting 90 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 34 cinemas unreceived), 25.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 10 lakhs from Baroda, 9 lakhs from Surat, 2.65 lakhs from Anand, 1 lakh from Vapi, 1.20 lakhs from Bharuch, 6 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.75 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.35 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1.25 lakhs from Gandhidham, 12 lakhs from Pune, 1.25 lakhs from Solapur, 1.20 lakhs from Sangli, 3.65 lakhs from Nasik, 2.50 lakhs from Goa, 2 lakhs from Belgaum, 1.50 crores from Delhi city, 20.50 lakhs from Noida, 16.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 12.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 19 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.50 lakhs from Agra, 5.75 lakhs from Allahabad, 4.35 lakhs from Meerut, 1.50 lakhs from Aligarh, 2.35 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 30 lakhs from Gurgaon, 11.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 2 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2 lakhs from Hissar, 3 lakhs from Panipat, 21 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Zirakpur, 8.55 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3.65 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3.35 lakhs from Ambala, 10 lakhs from Ludhiana, 3.50 lakhs from Patiala, 7 lakhs from Amritsar, 1.50 lakhs from Pathankot, 16.50 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 13 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Akola, 6 lakhs from Raipur, 1.20 lakhs from Durg, 15.20 lakhs from Indore, 9 lakhs from Bhopal, 16.20 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.65 lakhs from Bikaner, 1.55 lakhs from Kota, 11 lakhs from Hyderabad (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 3.20 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Nanded, 2.20 lakhs from Latur, 1 lakh from Gulbarga, 30 lakhs from Bangalore, 4.55 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.35 lakhs from Vishakhapatnam, 1.25 lakhs from Madras (collections from 6 cinemas unreceived) and 1 lakh from Kochi. With around 8.75 crores TANU WEDS MANU has netted a good 27.50 crores in two weeks from India. The Madhavan-Kangna starrer is now semi-hit and will move further up to a higher rating. TANU WEDS MANU has also done well in the Overseas (despite a limited release) grossing £77,000 from UK and $ 205,000 from the US till the third weekend (11-13 March).

Moving on, Vishal Bhardwaj's 7 KHOON MAAF continues to tumble (but remains the second choice after TANU WEDS MANU) as the film collected 20 lakhs from Bombay, 4.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.25 lakhs from Baroda, 1.25 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Rajkot, 6 lakhs from Pune, 1.65 lakhs from Goa, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 3 lakhs from Noida, 2 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 3 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 5 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.75 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Bhopal, 2.35 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Hyderabad, 5 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.55 lakhs from Kochi. Adding a further 1.25 crores, 7 KHOON MAAF has netted around 19.25 crores in three weeks from India and has failed. The film has not done well in the Overseas grossing £92,000 from UK till the fourth weekend (11-13 March) and $270,000 from US.

Concluding yet again with Nikhil Advani's PATIALA HOUSE, the low end numbers trickled in as the film collected 10 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 11 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Rajkot, 1 lakh from Pune, 10 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.50 lakhs from Noida, 1 lakh from Ghaziabad, 1.35 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 8.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.25 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1 lakh from Bangalore. With an additional 85 lakhs, PATIALA HOUSE has netted close to 32.35 crores in four weeks from India and is a box-office failure. The Akshay-Anushka starrer has also under-performed in the Overseas (better in UK) grossing £ 692,000 from UK till the fifth weekend (11-13 March) and $645,000 from US.
