DIBAKAR BANERJEE
This week, on Zoom’s Bollywood Storytellers, national award winning filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee spills the beans on his style of film-making. From KHOSLA KA GHOSLA to OYE LUCKY LUCKY OYE, LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA and his latest release SHANGHAI, Dibakar takes us through his journey of storytelling.

With a theatre right next door, films were a huge part of Dibakar’s life right from his teenage years. He was strongly influenced by the movies of the late 70s and early 80s. Thereon, almost everything that Dibakar has experienced in his life is reflected in his movies. He has found a unique and real way to depict experiences through film, capturing a special essence - be it the lanes of Delhi, the characters that script stories or even the music that viewers hum long after they leave the theatre.

With the kind of courage that stems from ignorance and only cinema on his mind, Dibakar went on to create the first of his critically acclaimed movies - KHOSLA KA GHOSLA. Through LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA, Dibakar told a story of the darker side of Indian society.

Dibakar believes in treating his narrative in such a way that audiences feel it is their own story being relayed. This is what makes him different. His films have been a blend of provocative, edgy, simple and yet powerful in terms of storytelling.
