When you plan to visit Berlin next time you will find a brand new tourist attraction in the historical city that has seen many a chapter of world history being written about it. A new chapter has been added to the history of city now. From December 23, 2012, onwards the Berlin Tourist Guide has started offering 'The Trail of Don - The King Is Back' as an additional tourist attraction. The trail takes you through various locations of the city that are depicted in DON 2. According to reports Berlin has become an important tourist destination on the itinerary of Indian tourists whose numbers have gone up by 42.5% since the film's release. Kirsten Niehuus, Managing Director, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, thinks that Shahrukh Khan is 'a sexy ambassador' for the city and the trail has been designed for those Indian tourists who will 'want to discover the city on the track of DON 2. Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg co-produced and financed the film, investing in more than INR 12 crores.
The Berlin Tourism will offer the visitors a map marked by locations where DON 2 was shot, including Mandala Hotel on Potsdamer Platz. The city authorities are busy decking up the actual locations where DON 2 was shot, including the historical Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Cathedral, State Opera House, the Olympic Stadium and the high rise hotel on Alexanderplatz from where a Shah Rukh double is shown taking a plunge. This is for the first time that a Bollywood film's trail is being used as a tourist attraction, an honour largely confined to Hollywood films that have starred screen divas like Marlene Dietrich and Liza Minnelli and were shot in Berlin.
The Berlin Tourist board is quite optimistic about the possibilities of enhancing tourist traffic to the city on the back of DON 2. It is waiting for the tourist season to begin and expects a huge inflow of Indian tourists to the city inspired by the film. The premiere of DON 2 during the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) is expected to give further boost to this initiative.
