JOHN ABRAHAM and AKSHAY KUMAR in DESI BOYZ
|
|
Given that Rohit Dhawan's DESI BOYZ combined the winning GARAM MASALA duo of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham and also the live publicity blitzkrieg by the lead stars and the popularity of the title track, it was expected to embark upon a good start. However the opening day saw collections in 50-70 percent range and up to 90 percent in the north belt and also parts of Gujarat. DESI BOYZ was also hit hard in some cities of Maharashtra due to a bandh call. The film did show a noticeable growth in the latter shows though a really big jump was missing. But the positive thing is that the WOM is leaning towards the positive, especially amongst the core audience, the youths, and it and should benefit the film during the weekend. Meanwhile, after a good 49 crore opening week, Imtiaz Ali's ROCKSTAR crashed in the second week. The film has netted 14-15 crore (to be validated once collections are declared) and is hovering between an above average to semi-hit status. Some luck may help the cause of the 62 crore (all inclusive release cost) ROCKSTAR, especially due to the handsome pre-release non-theatrical recoveries (24-25 crore), and also the good to decent overseas run.
