Gul Panag: I don't want to be common man's fantasy

GUL PANAG IN TURNING 30
Gul Panag is quite happy with the pace she is working in the film industry and is unfazed by the feeling that she does fewer films as compared to her contemporaries. Also she doesn't feel lagged behind in the rat race.

Says the no-nonsense actor, "I don't mind doing less films. But you have to eventually like what is offered to you. Just because it's a big banner film I won't sign it blindly and do anything for the heck of it. It has to match up my sensibilities as well. I can easily do 3-4 films a year but then I won't be satisfied with the kind of work I'll do and will never like it. I don't want my close ones or people close to me to feel bad or embarrassed about it."

Further on Gul also states that she doesn't want to be like quintessential Bollywood heroine. "I don't want to wear chiffon sarees and dance around trees & snow because the actual youth don't do that. I find it so unreal. Obviously I would love to do romantic films but I believe in real romance - dating, catching up a movie, fun stuff, etc."

Still, doesn't she feel like being youth's fantasy woman? She says, "I want to be thinking man's fantasy than being common man's fantasy woman. We need to understand real & unreal. If you want to do fantasy films then we should do movies like AVTAAR. We should do science fiction which is genuine fantasy. Or else films like DABANGG. But you can't be serious about doing non-serious stuff. See the way Abhinav Kashyap has given the treatment to DABANGG he is having fun with masala but he doesn't believe in masasla. Similarly if I have to do unreal stuff then I want to do science fiction or may be animation."

Gul Panag will be seen in the upcoming film TURNING 30 directed by debutant Alankrita Srivastav and produced under Prakash Jha Productions.
