In 2010, Karan Johar was the only film maker to have enjoyed a 100% strike rate with three releases and each of them being a success. While MY NAME IS KHAN turned out to be a landmark film for his production house and is Bollywood's biggest global success till date, I HATE LUV STORYS was a clean hit as well. Meanwhile WE ARE FAMILY too managed to become a moderate success hence ensuring that the disappointment of Karan Johar's last film in 2009, KURBAAN, was well forgotten.
Months to come though will be even more action packed.
"My endeavour is to expand my production base," admits Karan, "Next three years would be crucial and I want to assess how it all goes to pave the way for future. I have to see whether I can handle multiple things at one time or not. I am producing multiple films while directing my own film as well. There is a lot on my plate. I have to see whether my 'mini army' can handle all the pressure or not".
Karan does have a mitigation plan in place though. While he aspires to be independent in his film making process, he is leaving options open to form an association with a corporate house if the need arises.
"At this moment I am not really aligned with a studio. But then who knows about tomorrow," questions Karan, "At the moment I am busy creating my own world. That's of utmost priority. As we have to make ourselves an important entity. If we can take it all up to the next level then nothing better than that. Meanwhile I am leaving my options open for a tie up or alignment".
One looks forward to how the plan materializes, especially with close to half a dozen films that Karan Johar plans to launch in next six months.
