Ranveer Singh: I want to be treated like an actor and not a star

Saturday, March 26, 2011 3:30:20 PM (IST) | Rajesh Kumar Singh, Bollywood Trade Editorial

Rating:

RANVEER SINGH AT FICCI AWARDS
He has the rare distinction of being a debutant actor who came from a non-film background and delivered a blockbuster in his first outing as a solo hero and achieved instant stardom, with industry big wigs falling head over heals in praising and extolling his virtues.

There are very few success stories like his in the long Bollywood history. However, the hero of BAND, BAAJA, BAARAAT, Ranveer Singh, is not thrilled and excited beyond a point about the brouhaha around him and feels quite uncomfortable wearing the crown of stardom. He wants to be an actor and not a star and hates being chased with proposal makers who put bags loaded with money before him and ask him to pick a story, writer, and director of his choice and do a film for them.

He says, "I hate this attitude of the industry that puts a male star into the centre of everything, and starts treating me as the God of Box Office and not as an actor. I am an actor. I want to read a role and get excited about how will I do it and the possibilities it offers to me as an actor."

He made these candid submissions in his unique humble style on the last day of the FICCI FRAMES 2011 session on 'Successful Film Content - Rise of Debutants'. The session had an impressive panel of debutant directors and actors like Kiran Rao (DHOBI GHAT-THE MUMBAI DIARIES), Abhishek Sharma (TERE BIN LADEN), Habib Faisal (DO DOONI CHAAR), Vikramaditya Motwane (UDAAN), Maneesh Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha (DABANGG) and Ranveer Singh (BAND BAAJA BAARAT) with Karan Johar as moderator.
