Sonam Kapoor: I don't believe in censorship

Sonam Kapoor’s middle finger act in Abbas-Mustan’s much touted film PLAYERS has raised the eyebrows of one and all. In the trailer, the pretty lass is shown making the controversial hand gesture while driving a car. It seems the act has not gone down well with many. Even censor Board, who initially gave a miss to the act, later blurred the scene finding it in a bad taste.
When asked to Sonam about her view point on the same, she explicitly said, “I think it’s a part of your lingo. Don’t we all use the word 'F@#K’ in our language so frequently?”
She further expressed, “Anyways I don’t believe in censorship. I don’t believe anything should be censored. It’s really crazy especially when it comes to art, films and even journalism to a large extent. Specially, after you live in a country like India where freedom of speech, freedom of expression is our basic right. We already have internet where we can see everything. So what is the point of not showing something which is already there? Showing a middle finger is way better than other bad things that we come across. Its double standards and hypocritical for people to behave like that. Everybody does that and it’s such a normal thing.”
Sonam Kapoor plays the role of Naina Briganza, a hacker, in upcoming film PLAYERS, which is all set to release on 6th January 2012.
