Was Vidya uncomfortable with THE DIRTY PICTURE?

While everyone is standing up and noticing Vidya Balan's bindaas act in THE DIRTY PICTURE, those associated with her during the making of the film suggest that it wasn't easy for her in the initial days. Though in front of the camera she was an absolute professional, behind the scenes there was much mental conditioning she had to engage in, before stepping out on the sets in those shocking costumes.
'She went through hundreds of costume trials before we zeroed down on what was finally required for the screen,' informs director Milan Luthria who has gone through the drill of making a period film earlier in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. 'There was a lot of talking that happened with Vidya before she reached a comfort level. Fortunately for me she was quite open about sharing her inhibitions at the very outset.'
Now that the film is in its last leg of shooting, Milan is glad that Vidya has been accepted unanimously in her new avatar.
'It is not just the audience that is shocked; frankly even we are, despite working with Vidya for so long,' smiles Milan, 'Ekta (Kapoor) and I was zapped by where she has taken this character. Frankly, she has made the written material her own. She is Silk. Period.'
With Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Tusshar as the three men in her life, Balaji's THE DIRTY PICTURE with music by Vishal and Shekhar releases all over on 2nd December.
